The Turkish military intervention as one of the tools for implementing the Turkish foreign policy orientations in northern Syria “Operation Peace Spring, as a model”

Abstract

The study aimed to clarify the nature and objectives of the Turkish intervention in northern Syria, Operation Peace Spring, and regional and international positions, and to answer the question about the extent of the Turkish intervention in northern Syria affecting the Turkish role in the Syrian crisis? The study relied on the analytical method and the decision-making method to prove the validity of its hypothesis: There is a positive impact of the Turkish military intervention in northern Syria on Turkish foreign policy towards the Syrian crisis and limiting its repercussions on Turkish national security. The study concluded that the operation "Peace Spring" represents an important turning point in the course of the ongoing conflict in Syria. The military operation in northern Syria strengthened Turkey's position as a regional player and helped it achieve its goal of eliminating the control of the Kurds along the Turkish Syrian borders through the agreement through which Turkey was able to reach understandings with the United States of America to establish safe zones in northern Syria and limit its influence. The Kurdish parties hostile to Turkey, which from Turkey's point of view represent a direct threat to Turkish national security, and the study recommends that Turkey review the tools for implementing its foreign policy in Syria and not resort to military force to achieve its goals.
