Abstract

Nguyen Trai is a thinker who greatly influenced the history of thought of Vietnamese people. His thoughts are crystallized from his love for family and the country, as well as his profound perception of the good values of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, which are the basis for him to promote the power of national patriotism and to choose for himself the path which puts "benevolence and righteousness" above all. Unlike other Confucian scholars at that time, he chose "benevolence and righteousness" as his purpose of life to "eliminate cruelty" for "peace of the people".  It can be seen that Nguyen Trai's concept of benevolence and righteousness seems to be simple but actually very profound, which fully embraces the elements that make up a state for the people and the country. That thought of Nguyen Trai is also the power to protect the nation, which is demonstrated through the role of a patriot.
