Abstract
Women are facing several barriers concerned to socio economic empowerment like a little job opportunities, profitable skills, low-paid and low status jobs and sexual harassment. Education increases women’s awareness of their surroundings and enables them to make rational decisions. The present study was aimed to assess the effects of education and property rights on of women empowerment in Faisalabad district. Multistage sampling technique was employed to select the sample; at first stage two tehsils from Faisalabad district were selected by using simple random sampling technique. At second stage four union councils (two from each tehsil) were selected randomly and at third stage 200 females (50 from each union council) were selected randomly for collection of data by using well structured interview schedule. Both descriptive and inferential statistics was used for data analysis. In univariate analysis such as frequency, percentage was used to describe the data. In bivariate analysis, relationship among different variables was examined through applying chi-square and gamma tests. The results of the study showed that majority of the respondents belong to the age group of 20-34 year. A major portion of the females had no power to perform their daily activities according to their own will. Majority of them thought that the main causes of their subordination were illiteracy, patriarchal system, cultural/religious values and lack of awareness of their rights. To improve the women empowerment situation it is suggested that, the government should make the arrangements to empower the women through organized efforts within institutions where patriarchal values prevail.
