Abstract

Medical tourism is growing at a pace of 20% a year and is estimated to have an approximately
USD 40 billion annual market value (ITB Berlin, 2012). As a result of its rapid growth, medical
tourism has become one of the most profitable tourism sectors, mainly in developing countries.
As the medical tourism sector is growing, it is important for Indonesia to recognize the
important factors that may encourage tourists to visit Indonesia for medical care. This research
aims to examine the antecedents of intention to visit Indonesia for medical care purposes. The
findings of this research will help Indonesia’s medical tourism sector to understand the factors
that must be paid attention to in order to encourage potential visitors to come to Indonesia for
medical tourism purposes.
