COMMUNITY-BASED DEMOCRATIC ARCHITECTURE AQRAH AS A CASE STUDY
Abstract
Societies have sought to activate their role in all fields, including architecture and planning, especially after the democratic systems entered those societies, which emphasized giving them the opportunity to express themselves and their identity. Aqrah city is a mountainous one that included an old residential area with distinct historical values, at the urban and architectural level. The present research tries to answer the question related to the concept of community–based architecture and the mechanisms for applying it in architecture. In addition to adopting the rehabilitation mechanism and measuring its effectiveness in the city of Aqrah. The results show that Aqrah region municipality has carried out a project to rehabilitate the old area, which is a mechanism within the mechanisms of community architecture. The study concludes that the restoration work focused mainly on the architectural facades as the most important measure in reflecting the architectural identity.
