DIVING INTO THE PSYCHE OF A SOCIETY: A DETAILED STUDY OF THE MENTAL HEALTH OF PEOPLE IN THE CONTEMPORARY SCENARIO

Abstract

Background and Objectives: The mental health of a society is relevant to the sustainable growth of a country. This study analyses how far the mental health of people who happened to be traumatic is taken care of. Two questionnaires are distributed to the study participants and collected data on the occurrences of symptoms of depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, etc. The results of the questionnaires were recorded. The study which collected 100 samples revealed that about 40% of subjects have slight symptoms of depression due to unknown reasons, 12% of them know the reason for their depression and related symptoms. About 13% of the subjects have severe symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Severe cases of depression and PTSD are there in the society which is not diagnosed and treated. Proper efforts are needed to bring out people who need counseling and treatment. The attitude of people towards mentally and physically challenged people has to be changed. This can be done through proper awareness programs.
