PENETRATION OF FINANCIAL INCLUSION INDICES AMONG THE POOR: AN INTER DISTRICT STUDY IN ASSAM
Abstract
Financial Inclusion has a great role to play in economic upliftment of the poor. The term
‘Financial Inclusion’ is an developing concept around the world. Financial inclusion has broadly
been recognized as a critical mechanism in reducing poverty and achieving inclusive economic
growth. The government of India has taken the issue of financial inclusion seriously and
launching various schemes to bring the lower income and under privileged people within the
preview of formal financial services. In this regard the state governments are also coming
forward with the central as well as state government schemes to enhence financial inclusion in
the country. The present paper will contribute to understand present position of financial
inclusion in Assam and the changing pattern of financial inclusion in Assam. PradhanMantri Jan
DhanYojana (PMJDY) is one of the largest schemes launched in India to promote financial
inclusion. Assam has also contributed positively in promoting financial inclusion through
PMJDY. This study is has primarily focused on the secondary sources of data such as CrisilInclusix and other reliable sources of data. The status of financial inclusion in Assam will
be analysed from the CrisilInclusix.
