GendertinequalitythastbeentatsocialtissuetintIndiatfortcenturies.tThattintmanytpartstoftIndia,tthetbirthtoftatgirltchildtistnottwelcomedtistatknowntfact.tIttistatknowntfactttoo,tthattdiscriminationtstartstfromteventbeforetthetgirltchildtistborntandtsometimestshetistkilledtastatfetus,tandtiftshetmanagesttotseetthetlighttoftday,tshetistkilledtastantinfant,twhichtmakestuptthethighlytskewedtchildtsextratiotwheretforteveryt1000tboystintIndia,ttheretaretonlyt908tgirls.tIntsuchtatscenario,tittistbuttobvioustthattfortmyriadtreasons,tmanytgirlstacrosstthetcountrytaretforcedttotdroptouttoftschool.

Patriarchaltnormsthavetmarkedtwomentastinferiorttotmen.tAtgirltchildtistconsideredtatburdentandtistoftentnotteventallowedttotseetthetlighttoftthetworld.tIttisthardttotimaginetthiststatetoftaffairsintthet21sttCenturytwhentwomenthavetprovedttotbetstrongtleaderstinteverytfieldtpossible.tFromtwrestlingttotbusiness,tthetworldthastbeentrevolutionizedtbytexceptionaltwomentleaderstintfieldstthattweretuntiltrecentlytcompletelytdominatedtbytmen.

Buttintspitetoftsuchtprogress,teventtoday,tthetgirltchildtistdiscriminatedtagainsttintmosttIndianthouseholds.tThetbirthtoftatbabytboytistcelebratedtwithtgreattpomptandtardor,tbuttthetbirthtoftatgirltchildtistreceivedtwithtdismay.tThetpracticetoftfemaletfeticidetthroughtsextselectivetabortiontcontinuesttotbetpracticedtintspitetoftthetPrenataltDiagnostictTechniquetActtoft1994.tIntIndiatthetchildtsextratiotistattthetlowesttitthastevertbeentwithtjustt914tgirlstforteveryt1000tboyst(Census,t2011).

Andtthistdiscriminationtcontinuestinteverytaspect.tBetitteducation,thealth,tprotectiontortparticipation,tthetgirltchildtistalwaysttreatedtunequally.tIndiantsocietytstillthasn’ttbeentawakenedttotthetimportancetoftempoweringtthetwomen.tThetstatisticststilltnarratetatgrimtstorytoftfemaletfeticide,girltchildtdiscriminationtandtgendertbias.
