Abstract

Dermatoglyphics is the ridges which are present on the fingers, palm and sole of the foot. Dermatoglyphics play a vital role in the diagnosis of different kinds of systemic and oral diseases. The aim of the present study is to analyze the Palmer ATD angle in population with malocclusion. This study was conducted in a private dental college at chennai and a sample of 20 participants were selected and grouped as a malocclusion group which is the study group and normal group. The palmar ATD angles of the participants were recorded and results were analysed statistically using SPSS tool for descriptive and association analysis. From the results obtained, The mean ATD angle for the control group was 39.6° and for the study group the mean value was found to be 42.4° . Independent student's T test was done to compare the results suggesting the significance level of p = 0.003(< 0.05) statistically significant . It is concluded that the study results are statistically significant, The mean palmar ATD angle of right and left hand of malocclusion population is more when compared to the palmar ATD angle of normal occlusion population which can be suggestive of significant association of dermatoglyphics in malocclusion risk.
