CORONAVIRUS: IMPACT OF COVID 19 ON RESPIRATORY SYSTEM - A REVIEW

Abstract

The global threat acute respiratory tract infection is COVID 19, which emerged in December 2019. There are seven different types of coronavirus which cause illness to humans. Out of 7, SARS-Cov, MERS- Cov, SARS-CoV can affect severely on respiratory systems. Similar protein structure was found in COVID 19 as in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), so the coronavirus was termed as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARSCoV-2). Fever, sore throat, cold, dry cough which were the initial symptoms of COVID 19. Vomiting, diarrhea, tiredness, and headaches are also observed in some COVID 19 individuals. COVID 19 can be diagnosed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect the coronavirus. For this study, articles were searched in MEDLINE, Pubmed, Health STAR, and Google scholar until July 2020. The key words included COVID 19, nCOVID 19, SARS Cov 19, Lungs and COVID 19, Respiratory system and COVID 19, ARDS and COVID 19. The inclusion were original research papers, review articles, in vitro studies, clinical studies, epidemiological studies. When article holder websites were analyzed on this topic, more than 500 based articles were found, when it was shortlisted based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, the number of articles were lowered to 150 articles. When timeline and other factors were quoted only 69 articles came into play. This article is reviewed from the 69 articles collected. Worldwide, nowadays COVID 19 awareness is important among all over the population. This review may help the population to get a wide knowledge on the role of coronavirus affect the lungs.
